Heavy snow fall and chilling weather have spoiled all travel plans for people who are eagerly waiting for Christmas joys in Britain. All the flights and trains have been cancelled and millions of commuters have got stuck. Road are also loaded with thick snow cover and can not be used until they are cleared off.
With temperature much below the freezing point, weather conditions may worsen according to the Meteorological office. The British Airways has already called off all its flights and motorways are blocked almost for the entire week.
Thousands of passengers are stuck in their ways and just trying to reach their homes any how. For them this Christmas seems completely catastrophic. According to the Met department’s forecasts this would be the coldest December so far as recorded.
Most of the airports witnessed chaos with passengers panicked after all the flights were cancelled at Aberdeen, London City, Belfast City, Cardiff, and Southampton airports.
Many areas may experience temperature around-10 degree centigrade or even below in the coming week. The entire month of December may have an average temperature around -7 or below that.
The weather chaos has affected travel plans very adversely this month and hampered the tourism sector so much that British diplomats have called on government to take some initiative for making some arrangement to fight with cold weather.
Businessmen are also suffering from the setback in the flow of tourists due to cold weather conditions. A long term observation of weather forecast suggests that last 25 years have witness a decrease in flow of tourists due to winters getting colder gradually.
Many shopkeepers in Trafford Centre in Manchester engaged their staffs to clear roads and parking lots through out the night to ensure that customers face no problem in visiting their shops.
A patient died when his ambulance skidded off in traffic near East Bourne, East Sussex due to heavy snowfall. He was already suffering from severe injuries following a collision of his car with a truck.
