Secure Your Home Before Traveling

locks

Hitting the road is a very exhilarating experience. Touring the UK, for instance, is one heck of a ride. You get to see the sights, meet other people, and even get to your dream destination at any time. However, coming home to a nightmare is not at all promising. So before you board that plane, take the time to ask yourself: How secure is my abode?

Crimes are becoming rampant these days. Robberies and theft are just some that can be seen in the top 10 cases in most police records. That is why it is vital for every homeowner to secure their dwelling prior to leaving. Check this helpful tip to ensure the safety of your property.

Hire a House Sitter

Try asking your closest relative or friend to stay in your house while you are away. Having someone actually live there can deter any forms of robbery, and will give you peace of mind while abroad. It is important that you leave your contact details such as your mobile phone number and the hotel you will be staying in. Inform your sitter  also about the date when you will be coming home.

Turn the Lights On

If having a house sitter is not possible, installing a timer for your outdoor lights can really help. You can set to turn them on during nighttime and off during the day. Robbers and thieves will not bother entering a house that looks lived on. So you better be safe than sorry.

Security Cameras and Sensors

Another ideal move that you should do to protect your estate is to invest in good-quality security cameras and sensors. Install them in corners where you can see your entryways so you get to record the action in plain sight. Having sensors on your doors and windows will also warn your neighbours or the police when someone attempts to break them open.

Cancel Newspaper Subscriptions and Mails

One thing that gives thieves the impression that nobody is currently living in your house is the huge pile of newspapers and mails in your doorstep. So, for the duration of your holiday, cancel your subscriptions and tell the agencies that you will resume having them the moment you arrive. Also, you can ask your neighbour to check out your mail from time to time so as not to let them build up in your mailbox. A location as far as the UK will really compel you to stay a bit longer, so make sure to secure everything before you leave.

Have Someone to Visit Your Dwelling

Be it the patrolling security personnel or your trusted neighbours, having someone check your home regularly will ward off robbers who may be lurking outside your property. Giving them a spare key so they can enter your abode and see if your belongings are still there is also a good option. Just make sure that you trust them enough so as not to give you more worries in the end.

Surely, you can avoid problems concerning crimes while you are away if you pick from one of the above-mentioned things. Always remember that taking a trip without any worries at all will ensure you that you will enjoy your holiday and make the most out of it. So, start planning for your trip now, and make sure to protect your house the best way that you can.

Preparing for Your Long-Awaited Holiday Travel

Packing

Is it one of your plans to travel this year to a great location like the United Kingdom? Are you getting excited for your weekend abroad? Well, before you get psyched for your trip, you need to prepare yourself in order to make the most of this leisurely pursuit. Take a peek at my own list of “work-to-dos”.

When I decided to take the big leap, I can hardly wait! But there is so much planning to do and things to accomplish. For one, checking out my calendar of events was a top priority. Working in a big company really helps since I can just take my leave without having to convince someone to take over my job. With all the people in my office, surely, my absence is not a problem at all. However, there are several items there that needed much attending to: clients to visit, interviews and so on. What I did was to reorganise it, and voila! I got myself a week off! Believe me, it wasn’t that easy. But somehow, the gods were there to help me.

And so I found myself visiting travel websites, looking for the best holiday packages that could fit my travel budget. Not to mention the most promising destination that I should choose to fully enjoy my trip. I also made sure that I got to live in an excellent hotel, full of amenities. That is why, now, I am here basking under the heat of sun, typing my every experience so that you, fellow traveller, will get to see what I have seen and enjoy up to the last minute of your grand vacation.

Oh, did I mention that I am in London? Yes! It has been three days since I boarded that plane that took me to the airport, and two days since I tasted champagne inside my very own luxurious hotel room. Truly, this is what I have been dreaming of. The sight from my window is breathtaking. At night, I can still feel that the city is still alive and jolly just listening to the hustle and bustle of the life outside. Sometimes, I visit one of them bars that stood in the heart of  Haymarket Street just off Piccadilly Circus, drinking to my heart’s content and meeting a lot of acquaintances. Definitely, this journey is so far the best I have ever been to, and that is because I took the time to plan before I started my route. I can only say that this is one hell of a leap that I have taken since I was in college. But that was the time when museums and parks were the first in our itineraries. So be it.

I hope that you find this post a helpful one for your pleasurable endeavour abroad. Like I said, it only needs planning and a bit of patience to truly experience the best in your travel. Of course, having a wad of loot would make a big difference!

Being Prepared is Vital When Touring!

Bought a travel wallet :(

It is undeniably one of the best experiences to be on a tour within a foreign country. So, if you are excited about your upcoming trip, brace yourself because it is going to be a bumpy ride. Obviously, there are many reasons why excitement is what every tourist would feel when taking a trip – seeing beautiful tourist spots, shopping, festivals and entertainment. Still, to ensure that you will have a great time, you need to ready yourself, as well as your backpack, for everything that you will need. Perhaps the checklist below will aid you.

1.    Clothes — Pack enough garments for your entire stay abroad. Make sure that your apparel will coincide with the kind of weather that your destination will be experiencing. For instance, you should prepare coats, hoodies and other thick outfits if it is winter. Otherwise, choose comfortable and light ones if it is summer.

2.    Shoes — Bringing two pairs of footwear and a set of flip-flops is most ideal. Again, this should coincide with the kind of weather out there. In addition, opt for comfort and not style. Since you will be there to enjoy the place, then expect that you will do a lot of walking and sightseeing while you are there.

3.    Luggage — Ensure that you bring a light and durable travel bag during your trip. Travelling can be tough, so you can expect something like getting your carrying case ripped or damaged while you are boarding from vehicle to vehicle just to get to your destination. Also, make sure that you put a nametag on it, along with your contact details, in case it will get lost in the airport.

4.    Travel Documents — You should treat these papers as your best friends; check them at all times. Since you cannot go out of the country without the necessary documents, it would be so frustrating that they get lost with all the things happening. Therefore, you should place them inside your backpack to keep them safe.

5.    Food — Waiting for long hours in the airport or train station is very tiring. At most times, you get to experience hunger and thirst. Still, you cannot just leave since they will be calling your flight schedule or your train will arrive any time. The best way to counter this is to bring enough food so you can nibble anywhere.

6.    Communication Devices — Staying abroad can never be boring if you bring your mobile phone, laptop or PSP to get you entertained. Just ensure that they are in a sturdy case and with you at all times so that they will not get damaged or lost.

7.    Foreign Dictionary — Owning one is vital especially if you are going to visit a place where the English language is not their primary dialect.

8.    Cash — This is the least thing that you may forget but take note that it would be safer if you diversify. One best thing to do is to bring credit cards or traveller’s cheques so you do not have to worry about being robbed. To be safer, consider leaving them at the hotel’s vault and bring only enough if you decide to see the sights, but you should not forget to exchange your cash to local currencies to avoid hassles.

These are just some of the things that you should prepare for your tour. By bringing these, you can be sure of a very wonderful time ahead!

Getting Acquainted with London Waterways

London Thames River Cruise

It may sound so primitive, but for hundreds of years, travel by water was the easiest. Likewise, it became the only way to travel around London in some cases, specifically during the time of the Romans until the eighteenth century. It was then that only one bridge exists across the Thames and it became clogged with traffic. Therefore, it was definitely easier and a lot quicker to hire water boats to lift travellers from one bank to the other.

This may not be entirely existing these days, but there are some tours that are handled through London’s waterways. For instance, you can savor the elegance of visiting the Thames through a number of boat tours and ferries operating there. If you have an appetite for riverside travel, then the following options may be of great assistance to you.
Catamaran cruises — offer an entertaining tour from Embankment Pier to Greenwich. Boats will leave every thirty minutes and will usually cost around six to eight British pounds.

Circular cruises — this type of tour offers circular cruises from Westminster Pier to as far as the St. Katherine’s Pier in the Docklands. Such tours will be spending around thirty to forty minutes, with a cheaper option of getting off at London Bridge Pier. Boats heading for other directions include tours towards Hampton Court, Kew and Richmond.
City Cruises — range of trips include services between London Bridge and Westminster Pier. Likewise, it includes a pool of London hop-on, hop-off shuttle.

Canals and Waterways — originally built into the ground of London to be used for transport of goods during the nineteeth centery. However, these canals fell out of service as a rail transport replaced this option. Nevertheless, these became a relaxing way to travel around the city.

Regents canal travels — can also be an option, which travels through London from Little Venice to Camden Lock. These trips passes through the London zoo and Regent’s Park. If you are bound from Camden with trips to Waltham Abbey, the London Canal Museum and the like, then this is the place to be.

Lock and Little Venice — boats will leave every hour on weekdays and will offer tickets to include entry to the London Zoo.

Jenny Wren — if you are bound from Camden Lock, then you might want to have a bite or two because this service operates dinner and Sunday lunch cruises that travel from the Waterside Cafe.

All of these are just options that you may want to use when embarking on a journey to London’s waterways. If you are having an idea from colleagues, family or friends, then do not hesitate to ask them on how to successfully tour these waterways with total satisfaction. Travel guides can also help you ease the tension when planning to venture into the British territory. Simply make sure that you do not violate any transport regulations, particularly if you are a tourist. If ever you have concerns that involves the operation of Britain’s network of canals and navigable rivers, just consult the British Waterways, as it has a free leaflet that outlines the six walks along London’s canal towpaths.

Keeping an Active Lifestyle as You Travel

RUN Hills Pullover in action!

It is common among vacation-goers to complain on their abrupt weight gain even after a short weekend getaway. With less stress, no morning rush and plenty of food – gaining weight during trips is inevitable.

If you are active prior to your trip, then you must continue moving even while on a holiday to avoid weight gain. You have worked so hard to achieve a healthier body and shouldn’t let your weekend break ruin your goal. Follow these easy steps and you will be in shape and active throughout your travel.

Engage in activities that require moving

We all love basking under the sun when on a beach holiday or snuggle in front of a fireplace when on a winter vacation. But you can still live on an active lifestyle if you also engage in “moving” activities during your trip.

Beaches offer plenty of activities that requires you to move. Swimming for one is a good cardio-vascular exercise. Walking along the shoreline is also a good exercise. Those who want some adventure can engage in water sports like canoeing, windsurfing and the likes.

When sightseeing, skip those coaches as much as possible and walk instead. Even if you are just walking leisurely as you check on landmarks and quaint shops, walking is still a good exercise.

Remember to put on comfortable walking shoes. Outdoor activities like hiking, trekking or rock climbing can count as one of things that you should do while on vacation.

Sneak in your usual exercise

Some routines should be continued and being away for a holiday is not a good excuse to skip them. If you are practicing yoga, perform some poses. Yoga can be done in your hotel room or you can find a quiet place within the resort.

It would be marvelous to meditate in the midst of lush woods. Runners can easily continue their activities. You can around the hotel or along the beach. Use the stairs, climb up and you’ll burn more calories.

Use your hotel’s amenities

Lastly, all hotels have their own fitness centers to let their guests pump up during their stay. Take advantage of these amenities to keep your active lifestyle. Same goes for pools, do not just dip but swim a few laps. More luxurious hotels offer more fitness courses like Pilates and Yoga for their guests.

Your vacation shouldn’t be a culprit when it comes to maintaining an active lifestyle. In fact, you must view traveling as a new environment to keep moving. With scenes and new ambiance, travel should inspire you more to sweat out. Escape the gym and work out with nature when you travel.

Staying Healthy While you Travel

Traveling can take a lot out of a person. However, if you basically follow a nutritional diet plan, you should feel your optimum best to follow any travel itinerary. Nevertheless, some people have certain dietary restrictions.

For example, if you are a diabetic or have a health issue,  apprise the staff in the restaurants that you visit by giving them information along this line. Have a friend compose it in a message in the country’s language. Therefore, don’t let any nutritional restrictions keep you from enjoying a vacation overseas.

If you do have special dietary requirements and don’t speak the country’s language, find someone who knows the language of the country you’re visiting. Ask them to write out the details of what you cannot have in your diet.

However, whether you have special dietary needs or not, make sure that your diet is nutritious and is tailored to any special requirements.

Traveling can be cause for extra stress too. Therefore, it can’t hurt to take a vitamin supplement. A good supplement to include is fish oil. Capsules containing the substance act to fight any inflammation. That’s because the oil in the capsule is an anti-inflammatory.

Therefore, the substance is recommended to boost the immune system as well as aid in making people feel better who have such illnesses or disorders  as heart disease, rheumatoid arthritis, sleeplessness, tension headaches, and depression.

Also, wash your hands to avoid any wayward germs from settling on your person and making you sick. Stay away from restaurants that don’t look altogether clean. Always ask that your food be prepared fully cooked. Write the instruction in the local language.

When staying at a timeshare resort, make sure you take advantage of getting plenty of exercise. Make a daily habit of exercising some when you are on your trip. This will keep you feeling healthy and in shape for any other activities you have slated on your itinerary.

Resorts offer a number of options, depending upon where you are planning to stay. Choose from such fun activities as tennis, golf, swimming, and skiing, just to name a few. Or, work out in the complex’s fitness facility.

Regardless of the exercise you choose to do, make sure it’s one you like and can stick to during your trip so you can stay in shape and feel your optimum best.

Take the above information into consideration. It’s essential to feeling good while your travel and staying focused on the other aspects of your vacation as well.

Learn Positive Phrases for your Timeshare Trip to Europe

Showing your Appreciation

Okay, maybe you cannot converse in any more than the English language; however, you can still get by communicating if you know some positive phrases. Not only will you strike a chord of goodwill by doing so, you can make communicating a little easier too. For example, you can be polite in one of several ways. “Thank you” is denoted as:

  • Merci (in French);
  • Grazie (in Italian)
  • Danke (in German); and
  • Gracias (in Spanish).

Introducing Yourself Formally

To introduce yourself, you may want to say, “My name is . . .:

  • Je m’appelle (in French);
  • Mi chiamo (in Italian); or
  • Me llamo (in Spanish).

Date and Time

You get the idea. By knowing some keynote phrases, you will enjoy your timeshare vacation in another country far more and start to understand the language of the countries you are visiting better too. But communication entails more than just a few basic phrases when you are traveling in foreign countries. It also means understanding how locals categorize addresses, dates, decimals, times, temperature, and floors of buildings too. Don’t forget that the day and month are reversed in dates. For example, 07-25-10 is 25-07-10 in Europe. Also, 1 p.m. is indicated by 13:00 in Europe or 3:00 p.m. is 15:00 on the continent.

Be Careful where you Place a Comma or Decimal

In addition, Europeans also reverse their usage of decimals and commas. For example, two dollars is expressed as 2,00 while two thousand feet is denoted as 2.000 [feet].

Floors of Buildings

With respect to temperature, 32 degrees Fahrenheit, or freezing in America is 0 degrees Celsius in Europe. Also, when you walk into your timeshare, and, say, are told that you are located on the first floor, you’ll find your unit on the second floor. That’s because the ground floor in Europe is the bottom floor, the first floor is the second floor and the second floor is the third floor.

Get Acquainted with your Destination Country

After awhile, though, you will get used to the distinctions in the language of the country you are visiting, and can overcome any barriers that may exist. Familiarize yourself a little bit with the language and customs of the place then before leaving on your trip. That way, you’ll be better able to cope with any miscommunication along the way.

Finding a timeshare in a foreign country is indeed exciting. No doubt, acquainting yourself with some of a country’s idiosyncrasies will make your trip just that much more interesting.

Meeting the Language Barrier – Timeshare Vacations in Europe

However, locals appreciate a visitor who has made an attempt to learn the primary language of their country.

If you want to communicate, then, a little more easily, it’s a good idea to be armed with about 50 phrases of the country you are planning to visit. If you only speak English, then you canstill  get by traveling in Europe. As most Europeans can juggle English with their spoken language, you should be able to communicate.

One way to better understand the various languages in Europe is to see how they evolved and note the concentration of languages in specific geographic regions. For example, the romance languages, as those found in Portugal, Spain, Italy and France, came about from Latin, or the language that was once prevalent in the Roman Empire.

As the languages in the aforementioned countries are interrelated, you can easily transition from one language to the next rather readily. For example, if you know Spanish, then there’s a good chance you’ll also understand certain words and phrases  in Portuguese or Italian.

The next grouping of languages is the Germanic kind. While these languages are influenced by Latin, they were derived, in ancient times, from tribes living in the northern part of the European continent. The Romans, during that period, called the people who spoke in the Germanic tongue barbarians because their language was not Latin.

Nevertheless, the German language, which is one of these languages, is a practical language to use when visiting Europe. That’s because it is spoken, not only in Germany, but also in Switzerland and Austria as well.

Another Germanic language, Dutch, is spoken in the Netherlands and in northern Belgium, which is known as Flemish there. While Dutch is not German, anyone who speaks German can decipher what a Dutch speaker is saying.

In Switzerland, four languages are spoken. Most of the Swiss speak German while about a fifth of the population speaks French. A small percentage of people speak Italian while a very tiny percentage speak the language of Romansch, a language that is related to the dead language Latin.

If you are not well-versed in any of the mentioned languages, then, for practical purposes, at least know the phrase in the language of the country you are visiting that translates to “Do you speak English?” If the person says, “No,” you’ll just have to try to communicate to the best of your ability. Traveling through Europe can be accomplished, even if you only know a smattering of a country’s language. You may not speak eloquently but you will communicate nonetheless.

How to Afford to Visit Most Expensive Cities in the World

Geneva became the world’s most expensive traveling destination, followed closely by Monte Carlo, New York, Moscow and Johannesburg. It seems these cities have increased their hotel prices even with 12% in comparison with 2009, as in the case of Johannesburg.

Or, even if they have decreased, as it is in Moscow, the city has always been so expensive that a drop in prices wouldn’t keep it away from this top. In the end, you can have a luxurious vacation even in the cheapest place on earth and a cheap one in these expensive cities.

But try to book some flights with something like five months before getting there and you’ll see the difference. Also, if you check what’s the peak of the travel season in any of these destinations, avoid it and enjoy the city without spending so much or meeting loud tourists at every corner. If you want to cut costs even more, here are some other tips:

  • Eat at local restaurants. Don’t go where you see tourists crowding and head a little more out of the central areas. Even if the restaurants don’t look so elegant and maybe you won’t find an English menu, you can ask for a recommendation from the waiter. And try to enter restaurants or bars where there are many locals: it means the food is cheap and good.
  • Find free entrance museum and galleries. You can find them almost in any city and don’t forget to get your discount cards. Youth cards and discount cards that can be bought at tourist info places help you save some money also.
  • Don’t buy souvenirs from special shops and don’t wait to get to the airport to buy them. Head to the supermarket for food and local drinks and find small shops that target local people for the other products.
  • Go for walks in parks, gardens or just on the streets of the city. This is probably the less expensive activity you can try and the one that offers the best image of the place. You don’t have to get into a race to see everything. Just walk, talk to the people (if there’s no language barrier, of course) and relax.
  • Try to see if you can avoid special tours and go on your own to visit some places. Usually, there are trains and buses that go to almost all touristic places and like this you will avoid paying even double for the same trip.
  • Use the public transportation. Big and expensive cities have a very good transportation system, which help you get everywhere fast and sometimes even comfortable.
  • Don’t buy all the small, unnecessary things that you will never use just because they are shiny. Take one if you really want a souvenir, it’s enough.
